Why do we need another Wolfe site?

The way that The Third Head of Typhon differs from Ultan's Library is that it is dedicated primarily to questions of religious significance within the Solar Cycle (and in the future, perhaps, other Wolfe writings). It is not a "resource for study," but a platform of engagement, an extended discussion if you will. If you are a blogger about Wolfe, please contact me and I will make you a contributor on this site.

Why not a forum?

Wolfe's fiction requires detailed, extended meditation. Questions about the text and suggested answers cannot be short, but require delicacy and thoroughness--that takes time. Also, a forum-style page would create a situation where the board was being flooded with questions irrelevant to the subject and require constant maintenance. A conversation between several individuals invested specifically in the religious content of the solar cycle augmented by the comments from followers and visitors to the blog will fulfill our purpose entirely.

Please continue to check up on the blog as we get going, and comment to your heart's content! We look forward to exploring the whorl.

Always,

Ross Arlen

New Blog for Gene Wolfe devotees, theodidacts, autochthons, augurs, sibyls, and readers.

Welcome to The Third Head of Typhon.

We seek to be a community of writers and scholars dedicated to Gene Wolfe's writings, especially the Solar Cycle.

For too long has the Solar Cycle gone virtually ignored by mainstream academia. The reason is clear to me, at least: the books implicitly reject the validity of the modern order by presenting a world which functions religiously. In order to explore the world/whorl that Wolfe created, and to explore the religious thought implicit in his narrative, and to speculate as to his stories' implications for contemporary culture, we need more than one person writing. If you are interested in writing for this blog, please contact me at rossarlen@gmail.com.

In the Name of the Outsider,

Ross Arlen
